"I'm Just not That Into Politics"
I've been trying to articulate the below idea for years, and of course, its complexity is perfectly summarized by a Tweet. We have a huge, massive disconnect between how the world works in a fundamental way, and "politics" in the abstract. Political junkies forget that CNN / FOX / MSNBC viewership is tiny compared to the other entertainments that are available. The average person watches when they're at the airport or waiting on a car repair. They’re just not checked in, and even if they were, it’s a rare occasion in which national news or political happenings tie out directly to their daily lives. Life sucks. Get a helmet. There’s nothing we can do. Politics is an abstraction unworthy of attention or time.
